Koba Shutters, Zoom Courier and MK Enterprise win on Opening Day

Defending Champion Koba Shutters opened the 7th Grace Alumni Basketball League (GABL) with a 62-56 win over the revamped Byzmo Team at the newly built SGS Stadium in Quezon City.

New recruit Vincent Dy from the 40 years old and above alumni team led the balance scoring attack of Koba with 12 point making 4 of his 7 attempts from rainbow area. Backing him up is another new recruit from 40-above alumni team Peter Coseip and 22-under alumni team candidate JV Ong with 10 points apiece.

Danny Ching and Ben Ong combined for 25 points for Byzmo who recruited 7 players from the 48-above alumni team to boost their campaign this season.

The annual alumni tournament is partnered with World Balance in aiming to strengthen friendship through sports.

Zoom Courier pounced on the under-manned Carbery Group of Companies to open their campaign with a 62-54 win. Coach Johannes Go took advantage of his full roster and immediately built a 40-19 lead at the half time break.

Stanley Chua led the way with 15 points all coming from the three point area. Stephen Chua backed him up with 11 points.

The visibly exhausted duo of Dayle Ng and Ronald Limsin huffed and puffed but still managed to finish with double-double performances, 17 points, 18 rebounds and 13 points, 17 rebounds for Carbery Group of Companies who was allowed to play only 6 players under the tournament rules for failing to meet the minimum required number of players during the opening parade.

In the last game, Irvin Ong and Joel Chua both finished with double figures in points and rebounds to lead MK Enterprise to a 67-60 win over Besman Auto Supply.

Ong had 22 points and 15 rebounds while Chua finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds for MK Enterprise of playing Coach Maynard Chua.

Besman Auto Supply, allowed to play only 7 under the league rules on opening parade, was handicapped more when Francis Co suffered an injury a few minutes into the game. Allan Sicerio led the Auto Parts Suppliers with 14 points backed up by the Beltran Brothers, Christopher and Jonathan who combined for 25 points.

The event also has the backing of Bounty Fresh Chicken, Licton Industial Corp, GCC batch 1978, Alpha Water Heaters, Great Wall Cars and Grace Christian College.
