Erstwhile unbeaten and defending champion Koba Shutters suffered their first defeat of the tournament at the hands of Gerry’s Grill, 73-63, in the 7th Grace Alumni Basketball League (GABL) – Fellowship Division World Balance Cup at SGS Stadium in Quezon City.
Kenson Ng led the way with 18 points and 8 boards who won for only the second time in six outings. Timely baskets by Aldrich Chan and Jomar Albino in the pay off period kept Gerry’s Grill in control of the entire game. Chan and Albino finished with 13 and 12 points respectively.
John Vincent Ong led Koba with a game-high 19 points.
World Balance, the league partner in strengthening friendship through sports, is very instrumental in bringing the league to its new venue the SGS Stadium which features first class basketball court.
In the other game, Zoom Couriers squeaked past Supreme-Olympia 63-60. Stanley Chua’s 14 points and Tristan See’s 13 points led Zoom who notched their fifth win in six outings.
Jason Gooh and Manchesfer Uy combined for 27 points for Supreme-Olympia who suffered their third loss in five games.
The event also has the backing of Great Wall Cars, Licton Industial Corp, GCC batch 1978, Alpha Water Heaters, Bounty Fresh Chicken and Grace Christian College.
Tournament is organized by Sports Committee of Grace Alumni Association, Inc. and Headstart. Former JRU Coach Reynaldo “Boy” De Vera is the tournament commissioner.
