Koba smothers Carbery Group; Gerry’s blast Olympia

Defending Champion Koba Shutters routed Carbery Group, 73-54 in Grace Alumni Basketball League (GABL) Fellowship Division – World Balance Cup at SGS Stadium in Quezon City.

Handled by Coach Philip Lim, Koba held on to a 18-17 lead after the first quarter. The Defending champions then used their crippling defense to take the fight away from Carbery, not allowing their opponents to score more than 15 point from second quarter onwards.

Vincent Dy and Jared Sy finished with 11 points apiece to power Koba to their sixth win in seven outings.

Aristotle Chang single handedly carried the fight for Carbery Group with a game-high 20 points. Carbery made only 21 of their 73 field goal attempts. It was their third loss in seven games.

The tournament that aims to strengthen friendship through sports made a bold move this season in bringing the tournament to better and safer venue with the help of World Balance. The venue boasts first-class wooden flooring, goals, locker room and multi-level parking area.

Gerry’s Grill continues their hot performance blasting Supreme-Olympia, 75-57.

After dealing defending champions Koba their first loss of the tournament, Gerry’s want to prove that the win was no fluke.

The win, their third in seven games, kept Gerry’s quarter-finals hope alive.

Godwyn Yu scored 16 points to help Gerry’s capture their first back-to-back win of the tournament.

Aldrich Chan, Jomar Albino and Kenson Ng combined for 37 points for the Grillers.

Jefferson Ongteco had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Supreme-Olympia who absorbed their fifth loss in seven games.

With the loss, Supreme-Olympia of Coach Steven Quan now has to win their last outing against Koba Shutters (6-1) and hope that Chicboy (3-3), Gerry’s Grill (3-4) and MK Enterprise (3-4) will lose all their remaining games to keep their quarter-finals hope alive.

Tournament is organized by Sports Committee of Grace Alumni Association, Inc. and Headstart. Former JRU Coach Reynaldo “Boy” De Vera was appointed as the commissioner.

The event is also backed-up by Alpha Water Heaters, GCC Batch 1978, Great Wall Cars, Licton Industial Corp, Grace Christian College and Bounty Fresh Chicken.
